I'm Jason Trickovic, a family physician and assistant professor at the University of Ottawa. Through Piezoelectric, I help health organizations and educators adopt AI with evidence, privacy and safety built in.

The work, plainly stated

I practise family medicine in Ottawa, teach in the University of Ottawa Department of Family Medicine, and precept residents. That's the clinical half.

The other half is AI: research, implementation, teaching, and building. Piezoelectric is where that work comes together — advisory work, workshops and talks for health organizations and educators.

AI-CARE Study

A randomized, double-blind, crossover, non-inferiority controlled trial where primary care providers and patients compare human- and AI-generated digital health messages. Protocol accepted at BMJ Open.

Family Medicine Clinical Lead for ambient AI scribe deployment at The Ottawa Hospital. Part of a broader institutional rollout — representing FM physicians on the ground. Microsoft published the case study.

AI Literacy Program

Structured curriculum for residents and faculty: fundamentals, ethics, clinical application, teaching AI. Four modules. Currently being implemented within the department.

Innovation — prototype, open to collaborators

FieldQuote

Preceptors give feedback out loud all day, and most of it never makes it into a field note. FieldQuote records the post-encounter debrief and drafts structured field notes for the resident to review and the preceptor to sign off. It's built around the resident: the aim is to surface their learning needs across a shift and a rotation, then answer each one with targeted learning material in the way they learn best. If you're an educator or a learner tired of writing field notes, I'd like to hear from you.

Tea Biscuit (formerly DoveTail)

A companion for older adults and their families that turns each doctor's visit into a clear plan and helps the family get it done. In customer discovery: I'm talking with families who help an aging parent manage their care, and with organizations working to improve care for older adults. Why "Piezoelectric"?

"Piezoelectric materials convert mechanical pressure into electrical power. Healthcare is under immense pressure. The question is whether we can transform that pressure into intelligent power that actually helps."

This site is about that conversion. Taking the pressures of modern medicine — burnout, access barriers, information overload, admin burden — and building AI that does something useful about them. Not hype. Not promises. Real work, carefully studied, honestly shared.
